Marie-Chantale Desjardins

On July 20, 1994, the body of Marie-Chantale Desjardins, who was 10 years old at the time, was found in the woods behind the Place Rosemère shopping centre. The young girl had been murdered. Marie-Chantale’s mother reported her disappearance to the Sainte-Thérèse police four days before the sad discovery.

Marie-Chantale was in Grade III at an elementary school in Blainville. A few weeks before her disappearance, she, her half-brother and her mother had moved in with the mother's spouse, in Sainte-Thérèse.

Marie-Chantale was last seen alive on July 16. She left her home on bicycle, at around 9:30 a.m., to go to a friend's house. However, her friend was getting ready to leave, so Marie-Chantale went away on her bicycle. Several witnesses claim to have seen her or talked to her at a snack bar/billiard room located on rue Turgeon in Sainte-Thérèse, in the morning, early afternoon and (possibly) late evening. She went there regularly, especially during the two weeks before her disappearance. From 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., she was with a friend in Sainte-Thérèse.
