On October 16, 1970, at approximately 9:20 a.m., a robbery occurred at the Banque de Nouvelle-Écosse located at 152 Principale Street South in Maniwaki. The suspects, wearing balaclavas, arrived in a stolen vehicle and fired shots through the door of the bank and then went inside.
The suspects exited the bank and encountered a Sûreté du Québec vehicle on its way to the scene of the robbery. The suspects opened fire in the direction of the officers. A stray bullet fired by the suspects went through the wall of the J.O. Hubert Ltd. store located across the street from the bank, fatally striking Freida Odjick.
