On December 2, 2010, around 1:50 p.m., citizens out for a walk in a wooded area at the end of rue Lanthier in Saint-Hippolyte saw a grey Dodge Ram pickup truck, which appeared to have been abandoned. When they approached the vehicle, they saw a young man lying on the ground. He had been the victim of a homicide by firearm. The young man was Martin Gagné, age 24, a resident of Saint Hippolyte. His home was located 2 km from where he was found.
Not far from there, the citizens saw another parked vehicle, namely, a white Cadillac Escalade. When they approached it, they saw another victim, Alain Hudon, age 52. He had also been the victim of a homicide. Alain Hudon was a businessman and a resident of Laval. The investigation revealed that Alain Hudon was the person targeted by the killer and that Martin Gagné was an innocent, collateral victim.
