On the afternoon of February 8, 1996, Pierrette Plouffe-Guénette, who was 52 years old at the time, was found dead inside her residence on rue Lajeunesse in Bellefeuille, not far from Saint-Jérome.
She was the mother of five children. At the time of the events, she lived alone in her house.
Ms. Plouffe-Guénette was the co-owner of a laundry located in Saint-Jérôme. She spent her leisure time at bingos and parish activities. Various witnesses described her as a big-hearted, active woman who was always ready to help others. It was also noted that she was cautious and slightly wary.
