Event date : July 12, 1976
Réserve faunique La Vérendrye
23 years old

This case concerns the disappearance of two young Montréal women, age 20 and 23, who left for a vacation in Lac-Saint-Jean on July 4, 1976. Renée Lessard was accompanied by her friend Jocelyne Beaudoin. They had planned to hitchhike and sleep in campgrounds. They were last seen alive on July 12, 1976, when they stayed at motel d’Amour in Rivière-du-Loup.

They were reported missing by their respective families on August 2, 1976.

The body of Renée Lessard was found by chance by passers-by who had stopped in Parc de La Vérendrye for a picnic. Some clothes were found. The bones were scattered over a rather large area, having likely been moved by animals. No jewelry or ID was found. The young woman was not formally identified until June 2018.
